Meze Platter for Match Night — Turkish Snacks Instead of Chips
World Cup 2026 is on and chips got boring in the group stage. In 30 minutes build a Turkish meze platter: ezme, haydari, hummus, acuka, oven-baked lavash chips and homemade ayran.
World Cup 2026 is in full swing, matches run late into the night, and someone has to feed the crowd. Chips and peanuts got boring in the group stage. Here is what your friends will remember longer than the penalties: a Turkish meze platter, ready in 30 minutes, all made before kick-off.
The plan: 4 mezes + lavash chips + ayran
1. Ezme
Hand-chopped tomatoes, peppers, onion and parsley with sweet crushed paprika — the spicy star of the board. Recipe: ezme in 15 minutes.
2. Haydari
Thick yogurt, garlic and dried mint. Five minutes, done. Tips: haydari recipe.
3. Hummus
Cooked chickpeas, tahini, lemon, garlic. Make it a day ahead — it only improves in the fridge: hummus step by step.
4. Acuka
The Antep walnut-and-pepper spread everyone will ask about: acuka recipe.
Instead of chips: oven-baked lavash chips
Cut lavash tortillas into triangles, brush with oil, sprinkle salt and crushed paprika, bake at 200°C for 5-6 minutes. Crunchy dipping chips, cheaper and better than the bag.
Straight from the jar
- Gemlik black olives
- peperoni pickles — spicy sticks that last into extra time
- Antep pistachios — the royal upgrade over peanuts
- sweet finish: tahini and grape molasses spread on lavash
Drinks: homemade ayran and Beypazarı
Ayran is the simplest recipe on earth: yogurt + cold water (half and half) + a pinch of salt, shaken. Next to it, Beypazarı natural mineral water — a Turkish classic from a 135-year-old spring, perfect for cooling the ezme heat.
